01

The Challenge

Neuroscience research was drowning in data — and the tools to process it simply didn't exist.

Diagnostic Biochips (DBC) is a USA-based neuroscience technology company specializing in high-density neural probes for electrophysiology research. Their hardware — including the SomaFocus platform — captures massive volumes of real-time neural data from brain tissue, but the software ecosystem to curate, analyze, and share that data was virtually non-existent.

Researchers were spending up to 6 months manually curating data from a single experiment. The lack of standardized platforms meant every lab had its own fragile pipeline of scripts, spreadsheets, and local storage — creating silos that slowed down scientific progress across the entire field.

DBC needed a technology partner who could build a full-stack, multi-platform SaaS ecosystem from scratch — web, desktop, and mobile — with AI-powered automation at its core, serving institutions like Merck, Yale, UPenn, Scripps Research, and the Lieber Institute.

02

The Approach

A platform built for science, engineered for scale.

Multi-Platform Architecture

Designed and built DBC Cloud as a cross-platform ecosystem — a React web application, an Electron desktop client for offline lab environments, and a mobile companion — all sharing a unified Python/Flask backend with PostgreSQL.

AI-Powered Data Curation

Implemented TensorFlow-based machine learning models to automate neural signal classification and data curation — reducing the analysis pipeline from 6 months to approximately 1 month, an 83% improvement in research efficiency.

Real-Time Signal Processing

Built high-performance data pipelines using Python, MathLab, and Octave for real-time electrophysiology signal capture, filtering, and visualization — enabling researchers to see results as experiments happen.

Enterprise-Grade Security

Implemented role-based access control, encrypted data storage, and compliance-ready infrastructure — ensuring sensitive research data from pharmaceutical partners and university labs remained protected.

Full-Stack Team

Managed a dedicated team of 13 — including project managers, full-stack developers, front-end and back-end specialists, UI/UX designers, DevOps, QA engineers, a data scientist, and an industry-domain expert.

Scientific Community Integration

Built collaboration features that let research institutions share datasets, replicate experiments, and benchmark results across labs — turning DBC Cloud into a platform for collective neuroscience progress.

03

The Impact

From months to weeks — accelerating neuroscience research worldwide.

Dedicated Team

DBC Cloud became the first SaaS platform for neuroscience, transforming how research institutions handle electrophysiology data. The AI-driven automation reduced data curation time from 6 months to approximately 1 month — unlocking faster scientific discoveries for partners including Merck, Yale, UPenn, Scripps Research, and the Lieber Institute.

The platform's success validated that deep-tech scientific tools can be delivered with the same engineering rigour as enterprise SaaS. What started as a contracted development project evolved into a 7+ year strategic partnership — a testament to the trust and quality of the collaboration.

“The most impressive thing is that even though this is a contracted project, they treat it as if it was their own.”
